Oct 7, 2014

For the past couple of months whenever i get tired or stressed my left fingers & hand shakes uncontrollably and i have a bit of weakness and cant grip my hand properly. I've been to the chiropractor a couple of times in case it was my neck causing it but they say my neck is fine.

ALS :: Weakness In The Grip Of Both Of My Hands

I am 21 years old. 4 months ago i noticed weakness in the grip of both of my hands. My chiropractor attributed it to 4 bulging discs that I have in my neck. 3 days ago I started feeling my hands tingling and going into spasms. The next day, my jaw felt tired, and the day after that my body started twitching uncontrollably in different area but mostly my legs. Are any of these signs indicative of ALS or can they be a result of stress related to worrying about ALS since most of the symptoms only appeared after I read about them?

Humerus Fracture - Limited Hand And Wrist Movement Due To Nerve Damage

I am 2 week into my broken fracture in my humerus just above the elbow

The doctors undertook surgery and after the surgery they did say my nerve was damaged in the process as I had a metal plate inserted to put back the broken bones together if that make sense.

Whilst I understand the fracture will take a while to heal I am real concerned about my nerve injury I can't move my thumb freely, I can't move wrist at all I can bend my fingers but I can't straighten

My splint is tight so I do loosen this and try to do exercise with my hand.

Autoimmune Disorders :: Muscle Weakness

I am a 29 year old female and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis at the start of the year. I have been having problems with my right eyelid in that over the course of the day it progressively becomes droopy and the only thing that relieves it is when I close it. When it becomes droopy it makes my eye feel like there's something in it and I end up rubbing it. It's only when I look in the mirror that it's droopy.

In January  my endocrinologist ran an autoimmune profile (but not for every single antibody) and rheumatoid factor and these are the results of it:

Rheumatoid Factor - 9IU/mL (<20 negative)

HEP2 - Positive

Type - Speckled

Anti-DSDNA - 7IU/mL (<30 negative)

(Positive antinuclear antibodies but no significant disease association found)

ENA screen - Negative

Autoimmune profile

Antinuclear Abs - Positive

Anti-Smooth muscle Abs - Negative

Anti-Parietal Abs - Negative

Anti-Mitochondrial Abs - Negative

Anti-LKM Abs - Negative

Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase Abs (Anti-TPO) - 141 kIU/L (<34 negative)

I am posting here because I have a suspicion that I have Myasthenia Gravis. Not only have I got the problem with my eyelid but I tried to follow some physical tests for muscle weakness such as holding my arms out straight in front of me and deep knee bends. The results of these home tests I did:

Holding out arms stretched in front for 60 seconds - pain in both arms when it came up to the 60 seconds and left arm dropped slightly

10 deep knee bends - did all 10 knee bends but the last 3 made my legs feel weak and shaky

5 sit-ups (sitting from lying down) - could only manage 4 sit-ups

I have an appointment with my GP on Friday and since this has now appeared I'd like to mention my concerns to them.

My main concerns are :

Wouldn't my endocrinologist have tested me for Myasthenia Gravis if it's an autoimmune condition? If so what antibodies would she have tested and would any of the ones I had tested have shown I have Myasthenia Gravis?

Who do I need to request to see to get a confirmed diagnosis?

If it is indeed Myasthenia Gravis would it be because my current autoimmune condition made it worse? I have read that this is possible and I became very hypothyroid yesterday as I had very bad Reynaud's flares when out and about.

Neurological Disorders :: Periodic Muscle Weakness

3 years ago i developed muscle weakness in my legs that meant i could not take a normal step or raise my leg off the bed, after about 2 weeks this started affecting my arms as well meaning i could not lift my arms above my head, the weakness is periodic and last for anything from 5 mins to 6 days. it varies in strength, when its at its worst i cannot walk at all. the longest i have been symptom free is 5 months. there is no pain involved at all. i have seen various neurologists and had MRIs and EMGs, my reflexes remain intact, i have also seen a psychiatrist who said i need to see a neurologist.

Vestibular Neuritis - Vestibular Nerve On My Left Side With 80% Weakness

2 years ago I had gotten a bad ear infection after a trip to Disney from pool is what doctors believe.  It was misdiagnosed at first so it severely damaged my vestibular nerve on my left side with 80% weakness.  Of course this was all found out after the slew of mri's, mra's, various vestibular testing, color/hot water in ears etc.  6 months of testing and 2 rounds of vestibular therapy have not helped me at all.  I am on my 4th

specialist in NYC who finally put me on acetazolamide for the sick side effects of nausea and brain fog.  6 months into these pills and now my body is starting to become accustomed to them and are not working so well.  My symptoms are

1) Overall unsteadiness and dizziness (fall to the left)

I work in NYC so my commute walking is the worst, shopping too.

2) Brain Fog - how else to explain this just a horrible feeling in my head

constantly that very rarely feels better.

3) Nausea (without the pills I could just be laying in my bed and fell like

I am going to throw up)

4) Disgust and Depression over this whole mess I am only 51.

I am told by many doctors 95% of people recover, right side compensates for the left side over time.  This has not happened at all.  I also have never heard of anyone having it constantly for this long.  Can someone at least tell me they are the same?

Nerve Disorders :: Tingling In My Right Arm

My arm has been tingling off and on when i use the mouse and lay my arm on the desk for about between June and Sept. By Mid September it happens every time.

It is not carpal tunnel. I am wondering if I injured it by nursing my 2 year old. I had dull pain the moves around from my upper arm to forearm and sometimes my knuckles. I stopped nursing 3 weeks ago and no more dull ache. But I have constant tingling when I use my arm. I am afraid my arm is permanently damaged. I noticed pain and tingling back in June but took it easy and changed my nursing position.

Movement Disorders :: Tremors/involuntary Slow Finger And Hand Movements At Rest

I'm seeing a neurologist next week because of the above symptoms.   I'm a 68 year old woman and my GP said it's the way my body is aging!  I'm not so much worried (about for example Parkinson's) as intrigued.  I know lots of people suffer hand and finger tremors but I am a bit unnerved by my hands and fingers moving very, very slowly on their own.  As I stop typing for a moment my right little finger has raised itself from the keyboard as if it were being pulled but very very slowly.  My whole hand will slowly curl and even my arms will move on their own if I am "at rest".   It's probably something with no explanation but I wonder if anybody else who has been diagnosed with a neurological/muscular  condition has experienced this symptom.  I do feel as if I am trembling right through my body and my feet will also move independently if I keep still long enough. I don't seem to have any other Parkinson's symptoms.

Nerve Disorders :: Involuntary Muscle Tensing & Contorting -dystonia?

I often involuntarily tense up and sometimes contort my muscles into painful positions—for example, arching my back deeply or sharply pointing my foot/toes. This occurs randomly, and many times every day. It happens in 1-3 areas of my body at a time, in varying combinations—including my jaws (clenching), tongue, back, hands, arms, buttocks, legs and feet. I don't realize I'm doing it until it starts to hurt! Once I'm aware, I can force the muscles to relax, but it just happens again after 10-30 secs, or if not that soon, a few minutes later (in the same part(s) of my body, or different one(s). It makes my muscles (and sometimes the joints) very fatigued and painful. I thought maybe it was anxiety, but it happens when I have little-to-no anxiety at all, and I've tried relaxation methods, stretching, anti-anxiety meds, all with no success. Someone I know told me that my symptoms seem very similar to the early symptoms of her dystonia. I don’t really know anything about dystonia, so if someone could tell me if this problem sounds like dystonia or not.

P.S. I’ve been diagnosed with: Asthma; ADHD; Constant Headache; Fibromyalgia; GERD; Irritable Bowel Syndrome; Idiopathic Tachycardia; Migraine—without aura; Depression; several musculoskeletal conditions (right shoulder, right knee, left foot); Keratosis Pilaris; Eczema; Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome; and Hypothyroidism. I also have the following symptoms that doctors haven’t yet diagnosed or attributed to any of my already diagnosed conditions: Ear Problems: pain (right ear, spreads to the neck just below ear, and to the surrounding facial area), stinging and itching sensations deep in the right ear, and bilateral paroxysmal tinnitus; Eye Pain/Visual Problems: left eye pain (accompanied by a gnawing numbness around that eye), bilateral eye pain (separate from aforementioned left eye pain), poor night vision, “trailing” (after lying down), and “ghosting” (upon exertion); Numbness/Tingling—entire left side of my body; Altered Taste—constant odd tastes—metallic, bitter, sour/citrus; Dizziness and Poor Balance/Coordination; Fainting/Falling; and Hair Loss.

Nerve Disorders :: Intense Cramps In My Lower Legs, Hips And Feet

On Sunday night my left leg started aching and I could barely walk because it hurt so much, also my hip hurt at the same time and my lower back on the left side, I stayed home from school for two days and then tried going there but that made the pain worse so both my legs started aching, it kind of felt like constant small cramps that sometimes got more intense, in my left leg it's my thigh and knee mainly and in my left leg my shin, I had to go home because the pain distracted me from being able to work.It later got a bit better but at night I had more intense cramps in my lower legs and feet.Today i've been pretty well, went to school again and now only my left leg is aching but not as much and mainly when I put weight on it but about an hour ago the left side of my face started to feel strange, I can't really explain it..but maybe a bit strained and also it burns, my jaw feels weird too.My parents says that I should not worry because I don't have any fever at all but I still want to know what the symptoms might be? I am going to see a doctor asap but there's no idea doing it now since I don't have a fever they won't take me seriously.Let me also add that I do not exercise and I sit behind my computer a lot, so it can't be some kind of injury.

Muscle Disorders :: Muscle Wasting And Weakness

Although I try to be as active as possible my muscles are making life for me difficult, as for years they have been wasting, causing pain and tiredness. All other symptoms point to Fibromyalgia, which I believe doesn't cause muscle wasting.....also have Osteoarthritis.  My muscle problems started in my mid. 30s.....am now 63 and is much worse.  Recent blood tests show normal muscles values....but something must be wrong as my energy level is very low.  Has anyone been /going through the same??

Neurological Disorders :: Discolouration On Optic Nerve With Septo-Optic Dysplasia

I have Septo-optic dysplasia, and I'm lucky if I ever get to see someone who's even heard of it because it's apparently one of those rare and awkward conditions with varying symptoms. But basically, in my case, the nerves in my eyes didn't develope well or at all.

I have 6/60-6/48 vision in my right eye and 0 in my left eye; as in I don't even see black or anything at all. I don't think light could ever get in there.

My most recent check up at the Optician showed some discoloration on the optic nerve in my left eye (the blind eye). It appeared black, apparently, which my Optician said meant it had been there a long time, as opposed to grey? But no one seems to know if this is normal for an optic nerve that never formed properly.

Apparently the discoloration is not mentioned in any of my letters on record, though. Is that weird? That's the only thing making me worried. Some people say it should be obvious so not included, but others say that means it's new?
