Ford - Explorer :: 2004 - Warning Tone And Engine Shut Down / Buzz On Dash

Apr 8, 2013

4.6 liter V8 limited.

Problem 1 : Driving into a small town I slowed to 35 mph and set cruise control to hold speed. Suddenly a loud warning tone/ beep sounded and the engine shut off. I coasted into a parking lot and restarted and drove the rest of the way home without incident. (another 1-1/2 hour drive). Could I have had an auto shut down because of a low fluid sensor or something similar?

My cold antifreeze was below the cold fill range but still was visible in the container. The temperatures were not high and the heater still worked. All other levels were normal.

Problem 2 : It also have an irritating buzz in the dash some where. Sounds almost like you would imagine a speedometer cable could sound, except no cable. Could it be the speedometer? It is intermittent and seems related to either speed or RPM.

Ford - Explorer :: 2001 - Engine Shut Off Without Warning / No Spark?

I have a 2001 Sport Trac with the 4.0L engine and it's not producing a spark. The problem started when my dad was driving down the road and be claims it just shut off without warning, no sputtering, nothing. He had taken it to a shop and they had just come right out and said the engine went. My bf looked at it and he says there are no signs whatsoever of the engine going.

No oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, we have replaced the ECM, coil pack, crank sensor, spark plugs, and checked the fuel. The theft light flashes every few seconds, not rapidly, so we ruled that out. The truck turns but doesn't start, when the key is turned to the "run" position, you can hear everything turn on, it just doesn't start. When it cranks, it isn't fast or slow, it's the normal speed from what I can remember so I'm not sure if it could be the timing chain or not. Where we can go from there?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Airbag Light In Cluster Comes On - Loud Tone From Under Dash

This happened last year right at the end of winter and than stopped during summer, just started back up today, just so we have all the info- my airbag light in cluster comes on and airbag off light come on above radio and both turn off. Once the truck is started a very loud ear piercing single tone comes from under dash (130 dB at least) this can range from 5-30 seconds depending on how cold it is outside.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: High Pitch Electronic Tone Coming From Dash Intermittently

My 2005 F150 has developed an intermittent high pitch electronic tone that seems to be coming from the dash. Sometimes it comes on for a few seconds. Sometimes for several minutes. It never varies in pitch. It will occur even if the radio and fans are turned off. It will also occur if the engine is off and the key is just in the accessory position.

Ford - Explorer :: 2008 XLT - Power Steering - Check Charging System Warning Comes On The Dash

My 2008 2wd 4.0l XLT is having a strange power steering issue. When I start the truck and back out of my driveway it feels like I have no power steering. Within about ten seconds of putting the truck in reverse the "check charging system" warning comes on the dash. As long as it is on I have no power steering. That warning stays on for about 15-20 seconds and then goes away. As soon as it goes away power steering is restored.

I have checked my battery and it is good, it is also pretty new. The power steering fluid level is good. Based on another thread that seemed to have a similar issue I replaced the serpentine belt, the idler pulley and the belt tensioner. No changes at all to the issue. My next step is to replace the power steering pump....

Start back with the headlights off the engine will shut right off, but if I turn the headlights on on while it is running and leave them on it will not shut off, unless i turn headlights off.cold start does fine.. I can turn ign key to the off position radio stops playing, so I know it is not the the switch or rod. Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Check Air Filter Light Comes On Intermittently With Warning Tone

I have a 2006 Powerstroke F350. Recently, the "check air filter" light has been coming on. It comes on intermittently, and every time it comes on it makes a warning tone. Super annoying.

I reset the minder, and even tried unplugging it. No change. I think I must have a short in the sensor wiring, but I can't seem to find a wiring diagram that shows the air filter sensor.

Looking for a wiring diagram that shows how the minder is wired? Or What is the part number for the relevant wiring harness?

Ford - Explorer :: While Coming To Stop Idle Goes Up And Had To Shut Off Engine?

2009 Ford Explorer - 6cyl -4L - 36K miles. This morning driving it, I came to a stop sign and as I was braking, the idle starting going up (and up and up) to the point where I had to shut off the engine. When I restarted it, everything was fine and of course, I can't reproduce this. I have the shop manual and couldn't find an IAC valve on this vehicle which I'm assuming it doesn't have. I'm sure I didn't accidentally hit the gas (as opposed to the brake which I know I was pressing down on when it was happening). Years ago I had a different Ford which had the exact same symptom and replacing the IAC solve the problem.

Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Engine Won't Shut Off / Running Even When Key Is In Off Position

The other day I went to turn off my vehicle and it continued running even when key is in off position. I took the key out and it still continued running. I had to disconnect the battery and turn key in on position for vehicle to stall. I do not want to buy any unnecessary parts nor do I want to take apart any unnecessary.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Headlight Warning Tone Randomly

I got my jetta over a year ago, and during that time I've accidentally left the lights on a number of times. But just a few days ago it started making a tone when I leave the lights on. Is there some way to turn that feature on and off, or was something wrong that mysteriously healed itself?

Phaeton :: New Battery But Getting TPMS With Dreaded Warning Tone?

I have just had my LHS battery replaced after ages messing about trying to get it done at a reasonable price and level of skill and the car feels like it is new. Once they had cleared out the erroneous fault codes, everything came back to life. For the first time, the central locking system works as it is supposed to, and the centre display in the binnacle no longer flashes. So everything's great - except the TPMS.

The dealer reported that it was working fine, and so it appeared, for about a mile, then the warning tone and message flashed up and I was back to square one. The same thing happened this morning. When I started the car, the TPMS was working, and displaying the pressures on the screen, and after about a mile, the dreaded warning tone and error message. If you think your battery is low, do get it replaced.

Prius (Gen 2) :: Resonant Tone At Speed - Red Triangle And VSC Warning Lights?

I'm not sure if this is a general FWD car problem or a Prius problem but a week ago I noticed a loud, and reasonably pure, tone that seems to be coming from the front of my '05 Prius at highway speed I don't believe it is tire, alignment, or road noise The car knows that something is wrong because it occationally throws some error lights but refuses to reveal the specific code My current thought is drive shaft, axle, CV joint, or similar but I don't know if that can turn on the error lights Any thoughts? Could I have two independent issues?

The car has 157k miles and was in two minor accidents before I got it One required a rear bumper replacement, the other they had to pop out a dent from the front driver's side quarter panel The records do not indicate that any other parts were damaged I have owned the car for 25k miles

Error lights: A few days after the noise started and 30 minutes into my morning commute while driving at highway speed up a hill (20kW from the ICE) I got the big red triangle of doom, ((!)), VSC, and the mark on the red car on the MFD. Aside from the lights the car appeared to drive normally I checked the voltage on the MFD less than a minute after the lights came on and it showed 14.1V The MIL light was not lit, and the Torque app on my android was not able to pull a DTC but was able to clear the error and consequently turn off the warning lights

The next day the same warning lights popped up again and at the end of the commute I used a paperclip to connect pin 4 and 13 on the OBD port in an attempt to read the code When I turned the car on with the two pins shorted the red triangle lit but the ABS, ((!)), and VSC lights all blinked at 2 Hz indicating their systems were normal After turning the car on and off four times the red triangle went away

The error lights have now popped up four times, each time after more than 30 minutes of driving I have also had several trips longer than an hour where the lights did not come on

Ford - Explorer :: 2002 V6 2 Wheel Drive Will Just Shut Off / Engine Shudders And RPMs Drop

I think it's possessed! My sisters vehicle, a 2002 Explorer with a 4.0 V-6, automatic, 2 wheel drive will just shut off. At first it acted like it would vapor lock. But it would start right away. then the a while later, (several months), it got where it would drop rpms and the engine shudders, sometimes not dying.

When this first started, the throttle body was cleaned, a new air filter installed, fuel pressure checked. Everything checked out and for a few days it ran fine. Then it started all over again. There has never been a code thrown. All of this goes on only when the ambient temp is above 70 deg.'s. below 70 deg.'s it runs perfect.

Last week it went to the mechanic again and a new crank speed sensor, fuel pump, and diagnostic done. He could not find anything wrong any where. Took it for a test drive and it dyed on the mechanic. Still no codes. What the problem might be? Every Mechanic that has looked at it has gave up, one even saying, " it's possessed."

Ford - Explorer :: 2004 - Loud Knocking Noise Coming From Under The Dash

When you turn the interior ac temperature from cool to warm there is a loud knocking noise coming from under the dash. I am new to working on explorers but it seem like its coming from the black box nearest the firewall above the transmission tunnel. When you turn it to cold the noise almost completely goes away. The noise gets even louder when you mess with the selector for "max ac" "head and feet" "feet" etc.

Ford - Explorer :: 2006 - Clicking Under The Dash When Engine Revs To Around 3000 RPMs?

2006 Explorer with a perplexing issue that I am scratching my head over. When engine revs to around 3000 RPM, there is a click that sounds like it is under the dash, and the ABS, traction control, and airbag lights come on; if the headlights are on, the dash lights around the a/c controls go out, and sometimes (but not every time) the speedometer and odometer drop to zero. Also, the overhead lighting, if on, goes out. The engine does not appear to be affected. After about 1 second, another click, and everything returns to normal. This happens either while driving or if in park and revving engine. Is this possibly a relay tripping? And if so, why is it triggered by 3000 RPMs?

Prius (2004-09) :: Occasional Beep From The Dash After Shut Down

Gen II? My 2004 will occasionally beep from the dash after shut down (until I close the door). If I ignore the beep, close the door and walk away, the next morning it will need a jump start!

My dealer said it was because I was shutting down before putting it in Park. I always thought Park was unnecessary. Anyway, I got in to the habit of putting it in Park every time before shutdown, and still sometimes I get the dash beeping when I open the door.

Ford - Explorer :: 2004 - Acceleration Responding Slow / Tick Or Tap Coming From Behind The Dash

We have an 04' Ford Explorer NBX 4x4 (auto). We are not the original owners. It has a several issues.

1. Acceleration seems to be responding a little slow when I depress the accelerator pedal. Like a lag of some kind. Engine appears to idle and run fine. Just that subtle lag from gas pedal to engine response. No trouble codes

2. There is a tick or tap coming from behind the dash. This morning as soon as a put the key in the ignition the ticking started but went away after a few minutes on the road. But comes back when I come around turns (like a rounding off ramp from the HWY). Cannot figure out what it is. No trouble codes.

3. My transmission (4x4 Auto) when cold is fine, but when it warms up it seems to go into 4x4 mode and wont come out. All I have to do start going up a subtle hill (or incline) and it engages the 4x4 (at least that's what it feels like). I can hear the sound of gearing. When the transmission shifts it thumps really hard. At low speeds when I let off the gas it thumps really hard. We took it to the tranny shop and they said it was the rear end.

So we had that rebuilt. It was ok for a couple of months (rarely drive it). But it is doing it again, but seems to be getting worse. When in this mode it seems to feel like its dragging. We recently serviced the transmission filter. Replaced fluid. We reset the computer to relearn daily driving. But didn't work.

I was thinking of replacing the 4x4 module and or solenoids in tranny, or 4x4 motor on transfer case, but I don't want to spend money if it doesn't fix the problem. No trouble codes. Are all these issues related to one another? Is one issue causing the other problem to exist?
