Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Whining Or Vibration Noise Seems To Come From Somewhere Around The Antenna

Mar 9, 2015

I have a 2014 super duty extended cab truck and at times I get a vibration noise which seems to come from somewhere around the antenna. The little rubber flapper at the base seems to move and isn't tight against the metal. Is this causing the noise...

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Whining Noise From Alternator?

I have had this whining noise that I'm not sure what it is. It sounds like its comin from the alternator area. There are three symptoms that are confusing me though, 1st is I only hear this whine as the weather starts getting colder and the colder it is the louder it is. 2nd is it only happens around 1800rpms like when it's getting ready to shift to the next gear. I can get it to whine when I'm parked and bringing the rpms up. 3rd is after 10-15 minutes when the truck is warmed up - no more whine. The truck is used very little duing the summer and I had this whine all winter last year. Alternator appears to be working fine and I do plow a few driveways every storm. Money is tight so I don't want to replace the Alternator an find it wasn't the problem.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: F250 - Whining Noise When Accelerate

I purchased an 1999 F250 Super Duty truck last Sept., it ran great all winter, now when I accelerate I notice a whining type noise (that's the only way I can describe it) it only does this during acceleration not @ idle, could this be a bad water pump? However there are no leaks or puddles of anything in my driveway.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Add Antenna Via Roof - Now 3rd Brake Light Not Working?

Today I started to install my satellite radio in the 250. I ran the antenna through the roof where the 3rd brake light is. The lights were not working so I thought I'd just replace them while it was off the truck. To my surprise the bulbs the guy had installed must have been too big because the wires, sockets and the housing were melted and not really usable. With that said. I can't seem to find a web site that would have an aftermarket setup that would fit the roof of a F250.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Truck Makes A High Pitched Whining Noise

I noticed my truck makes a high pitched whining noise. It does it at idle and while acceleration up to 40 mph or so. The pitch of the wine increases with RPM'S. It is not the cold start whine issue I have researched on YouTube.

It is in the cold or warmth. No difference. It's always there. My 2012 6.2 did not sound like this at all. I have crawled under the truck and it appears like it is coming from the transmission.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 6.0 4WD - Low Rumble Noise / Whining When At Light Throttle Load And Above 50 - 60 MPH

I have a 2003 F250 SD with 130K miles. I primarily use it to pull a race car, about 5000 lbs is all. It has all the upgrades, from studs to EGR delete. Ford replaced the automatic transmission in 2005. I'm looking at a truck newer than 2011, but thinking either a flex fuel 250 or diesel. I want it loaded and 4WD, but they seem expensive.

Anyway, I have bad front wheel bearings. I know this because of the low rumble noise and how it acts when I rock the steering. How tough are they?? I build my entire race cars, so I have a well-equipped garage and some ability to cuss, but I don't have a lot of time. A buddy wants to do it for $300 total for both sides plus parts cost.

Also, this is the bad part I really need input on. It has a whining when at light throttle load and above 50-60 MPH. This seems to come from the floorboard area behind me. Gear changes do NOT affect the pitch, but a change in throttle crowding makes it louder and weaker. It has no coast down noise at all, and the noise pitch seems to track the drive shaft speed. It is a whine much like the low gear set in an automatic trans, but it does it in any gear with or without 4WD on. The only thing that affects the level is slightly pushing the accelerator, speed, or weight I am towing.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2004 F250 - Loud Whining Noise / White Smoke From Serpentine Belt

I bought a 2004 6.0L F-250 used a few weeks ago. There have been a few problems here and there that I have been competent enough to fix. I am now facing a problem of A: the truck not starting (I believe it was just a battery problem, charged and started fine). But also B: I have had a slightly frayed serpentine belt that I noticed a few days ago. After I got the truck running from my the no-start and driving it around the block I parked it and went inside. Came back out a few minutes later and I tried to start it. It hesitated a little bit but started with a loud whining noise and white smoke coming from the belt. Turned the engine off and saw on one of the bottom wheels (pulleys?) some residue that looked and smelled like burnt rubber. Is this just simply a need for a new belt?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Drivetrain Noise Changed To Vibration

I have a 04 F350 srw , 6.8 . Recently developed loud whine from the rear . I had the differential (10.5 sterling ) completely rebuilt . It quieted way down . But I still had a couple of high pitched whines . Took it back and had the rebuilder ride with me . At first he couldn't hear it ( it can be faint but gets louder under a load , I pull a 40' trailer and didn't have it with me), when he finally started hearing it he said it might be a planetary making a little noise, just watch it . So I made a short run (450miles RT) . Same noises but I noticed that sometimes when I stopped and got fuel , it would quiet down for 50 or so miles . I got to thinking maybe it could be a rear wheel bearing going bad and the sound transferring through the axle to the drive line . It only did it accelerating ( before and after rebuild ) and got louder going up a hill .

Today I drove it in to town and parked it ( still the same ) and a couple of hours later after a cold front came through ( maybe 10 Deg. temp change) I got in and the noise was about 90% gone , but at 45 to 60 mph. it vibrates . Let off the gas , vibrates ,, Put it in neutral- vibrates, revved the engine in neutral - vibrates and no change from rpm diff. . As long as its rolling between 45-60 , it vibrates . Hit the brakes- vibrates.. I have had 3 mechanics check it out ( 2 good ones and one that the other 2 take what they cant figure out ). Left them all scratching their heads. Checked the driveline and I changed one U joint (prior to the short run ). All seems tight .

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Noise / Vibration That Periodically Comes From Front End

I've been chasing a noise/vibration that periodically comes from the front end of my '99 F250 SD. Quick & dirty of it........basically while cruising 55-60 down the road, sometimes when I hit a bump in the road or go over some railroad tracks or something like that I will get a grinding/vibration from what sounds like the front drivers side wheel. Best way to describe it is it literally sounds like my wheel is running on the rumble strip on the edge of the road at road speed. It will fade in & out a little & last maybe 5-20 seconds & eventually quite until some time farther down the road if I hit another bump. Doesn't happen all the time, just randomly.

So far to try & problem solve I have lifted the front & spun & kicked & wiggled & pulled on the wheel to see if I can feel or hear anything & everything seems solid. I have pulled the wheel off & looked the whole hub & wheel bearing over & everything seems fine. I have even pulled the 4x4 lockout out & inspected everything in the lockout & inside the wheel bearing & can't find anything that seems to be bad. (My original thought was that the Warn hubs I have might be messed up & the hub is trying to engage while driving down the road & that is the grinding & vibration I'm feeling.).

As mentioned above I have Warn manual hubs, I just replaced the wheel bearing last summer (only have about 10,000 miles on it), & all the seals & ball joints were done about 3 years ago.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2001 F250 4x4 - Loud Whining Noise Found / Wheel Seal Rubbing On Inner Part Of Bearing

I have a really loud whining kind of noise found that its the wheel seal rubbing on the inner part of the wheel bearing. I was just curious if its safe to drive with the spindle removed from the axle?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Bull Whirring Noise / Vibration When Driving

2002 F250 4x4 ... There is a bull whirring noise that started about 4 months ago. I attributed it to tire noise. Then this past winter I put the truck into 4 wheel drive and it went ok, however everything started vibrating. First thought was u-joint however none are loose. Then I thought needle bearing, the axle has no play in it at all. So I looked at the drive shaft, it has a sloppy turn, not sure on how much play it should have.

Then you turn it and it then kind of binds up, you can push through that bind then it goes until it hits that spot again. I jacked the truck up and turn the wheels there is no noise. The noise is only when it is driven. Took it to ford and they came back with nothing, they replace the rear pumpkin gasket and cover stated those gears where fine and they inspected the rest, and came back with nothing. Should I just start by replacing front hubs and bearings and see what happens.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2002 F250 - Front End Noise / Slight Vibration In The Floor

2002 Ford F250 4x4 Superduty Lariat (4 door). Just changed the locking hubs to a new set of Warn manuals. I began to periodically hear what sounds like a rumbling/bearingish/howling kinda sound. Happens when you hit a bump at any speed...then howls till you hit another bump..goes away..then process repeats. Come to a complete stop, and the sound usually goes away till you hit another bump. The hubs are "free" at this time.

Heres the weird thing...when the noise starts...I switch it into 4 wheel drive on the dash...the sound instantly goes away. Click it back outta 4 wheel drive (hubs are still unlocked this whole time) and the sound is gone. drive some more down the road, maybe hit a slight bump, and the sound returns. Switch it back into 4x4...sound instantly goes away. Its not really in 4 wheel drive, cause the hubs aren't locked in...but that cures it till I take it back out. What could be causing this howling ? Its getting worse, and you can feel a slight vibration in the floor now when its doing it.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Low Growl / Vibration Noise While Truck Coasted To Slower Speeds

The other day I pulled a fella out of a ditch. It was a dulley 350 with a lowboy trailer and a small dozer on it.

Well, after finishing and driving away. I inadvertently left the truck in 4x4 while driving on wet pavement at speeds ~30 mph. What I noticed was: when I let off the accelerator there was a low growl/vibration noise coming from the front/under the floorboards while the truck coasted to slower speeds.

I have never had my truck A) in 4x4 on clear roads or B) at speeds above 10mph in 4x4. Maybe they all make noise at low speeds in a quite cab in 4x4. I wouldn't know, I've never driven it under these conditions.

So, can you hear your truck in 4x4 when not giving it gas and coasting on the road?

I did not think I put the truck through too much while pulling that fella out, but now I'm wondering....oh, and I at one point I coasted forward and ran over the towing strap that was attached to my front pull hook and it made a HECK of a noise...could that have done something bad?

4x4 still works, and everything seems/sounds fine otherwise. I might just be hearing the front end putting friction on the transfer case and I can hear it in the tranny as she coasts to a stop (it goes away as soon as I press the accelerator at any speed) but like I said, I've never noticed this before.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Transmission Whining Intermittently?

A few weeks ago I was towing my 16 X 7 about 300 miles and I noticed that the transmission was whining.

Driven it about 600 miles unloaded with no issues. I do notice when I hit the gas it takes a second to engage..a little jerky...but normal otherwise. I don't drive the truck as a DD, so I tend not to notice things as easily.

Towed it 100 miles yesterday, and 100 miles back home today. Was silent until the last 20 miles...whining again.

What gives? I did have it serviced and inspected a few months ago because I felt like it was a little jerky. Got a clean bill of health from the local diesel shop.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2011 - Whining And High Pitch Squeal Sound?

I have a 2011 F-350 Diesel. It started making a strange whining sound when I start it in the morning. Very random and only does it when it's 0- -4 c. Took it to the dealership and they said its the cooler fan clutch. Got it replaced yesterday, and this morning I started it up and the whining sound was back. It also had a weird vibrating sound. What it could be?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 F250 - Front Wheel Bearing / Manual Hub Whining

Well, I've been meaning to get to servicing/re-greasing the front hubs/bearings for a while but somehow it keeps getting moved down the list.

2000 F250SD 4X4 Gas Manual Hubs+Trans

I'm currently going through the many threads that turned up in my search query.

Driving slow with the windows down it seems like a low whine or squeal coming from the left front. Tone changes when working the steering wheel left and right. Haven't detected any grinding sounds. Any other techniques for isolating the problem? It's going up on jack stands tonight and I'm going to see if there is any wobble from the front wheels and I'll listen as I turn each of the front wheels. Oddly, the right front hub is hard to turn. Left front turns easy.

Viewed Rob259956's videos on servicing the hubs. Currently researching accessing the wheel bearings. It seems pretty straightforward. Truck has been off road but not mud bogged or anything like that. I'm guessing a bad bearing will be easy to identify as will a bad o-ring but any other stuff I should look closely at?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Slight Vibration Between 50 And 60 MPH

I bought this Ex a little over a month ago and finally got around to replacing some stuff.

I have a slight vibration between 50 and 60 MPH. The vibration is the same weather I am accelerating, in Neutral, Coasting down (well, a little bit worse when coasting down), in 2WD, in 4WD, turning, going straight, hot or cold.

I have replaced the following:

Rear Driveshaft U-Joints
Tires and Rims
Upper and Lower Ball Joints
Wheel Bearings
Steering Stabilizer
Cleaned and Greased the Hubs
Greased everything greasable up front

I still have the exact same vibration as when I started. I can feel the vibration in the steering wheel as well as in the body of the vehicle. I am thinking that it may be in the steering linkage. If there is a loose joint then the wheels would be allowed to jiggle a little bit. I am at a loss. What else should I check?

Also, When doing the ball joints, I noticed that the tie rod ends were quite stiff. How stiff should these be? I can't move them by hand, but they will move a little bit when moving the free end of the tie rod.

I am taking it in for an alignment on Friday, and if I can't figure this vibration out, I might have them take a quick look into it. Would a stuck slide pin in the front brakes do this? Both sides on my truck are seized at the current moment.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2011 - Vibration At 48 MPH?

I have an 2011 F250 gas. I get what feel like a wheel vibration at 48 to 50 mph. It then go as you go up in speed. Comes back as you go down in speed at about the same range. Had it at the dealer for a month they but new tires and one new wheel on the truck. Same problem. Moved up to Ford. The sent me to another dealer. Ford now tells me that this is a problem that exist in the truck and there is nothing they can do.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Vibration While Accelerating?

So I have a 2016 6.7L love it but it has this vibration at 65 mph that is worse when accelerating up a hill. It feels like an out of balance wheel but I have had them balanced 3 times. road forced 2 times. My dealer replaced the driveline also. I did a test with 400 lbs of concrete bags in the bed and it was vibration free. It almost is like the pinion angle is off.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Rumbling And Vibration At About 40 - 55 MPH

Tires just balanced and rotated yesterday (second time just in case done wrong before). New ball joints and bars installed about 50k ago. Left front shock may be bad, but only slightly.

The issue: At about 40-55 mph, there is a rumble in the cab, unknown origination. Everything vibrates, although it "seems" like the left mirror is shaking more. The seat, floor, steering wheel, everything vibrates.

When I let off the pedal, vibration and noise go away, even within the "vibe zone". It only vibes when any throttle is applied, even just a tickle. I brought the engine up to the vibe zone RPM (1500-1800'ish) while in park and neutral, all seems fine.

I checked the U-Joints, they seem tight. I don't have access to a scanner, unless I want to pay the dealer.
