Alignment - Belts :: 1994 Ford E150 - Power Steering Pulley Out Of Line

Jun 1, 2011

I have a '94 Ford E150 (6 cyl). A few weeks ago the pwr steering fluid began to leak. I couldn't readily see where it was coming from and thought no big deal I'll wait until it's more pronounced. After a week or so of topping off the fluid, I heard a pop under the hood as the serp. belt broke (sheared off actually). Not sure if it matters but at the time I was all manual power with the steering as all the fluid had leaked out.

That's when I noticed that the power steering pulley was slightly out of alignment with the others. I replaced the belt, limped home and the next day the new belt sheared off like the 1st (in ribbons wrapped around the fan). Never had this happen before but is there any way to adjust positioning of the power steering pump and pulley?Looking on the bright side, I'll definitely have a chance to get to that leak now.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Oil Slowly Leaking Near The Power Steering Pump Pulley

2010, 5.4L... Noticed a small oil spot under the truck this morning. Took it into the shop after work, we lifted it up, and ran it for 15 min to see where the leak was coming from, and the truck did not leak a drop... until we turned it off. The oil would slowly leak near the power steering pump pulley. But only when the engine was not running ...

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Power Steering Fluid Leaked All Over Belts

A few days ago, my car developed a loud squeeling noise coming from the belts. I opened the hood to find both caked on and still wet PS fluid all over the left side of the engine compartment and the belts/pulleys. Most of the mess was concentrated near the PS fluid reservoir and the two hoses attached to it (picture of hoses and reservoir below from Google). This leads me to believe there is a leak in one, or both of these suction hoses. I will replace the hoses but my question is how should I clean up the fluid on the belts and pulleys? Should I use a soft brush and a rag with soapy warm water, brake cleaner and/or engine degreaser to get all the gunk off? I would really loathe having to have to put in new belts, seeing as that I just had all the belts changed 6 months ago. This squeeling noise makes my car sound like some old junky clunker and I hate it.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2000 - Power Steering Pulley Wobbles Slightly / Belt Squeaking

I purchased a new 2000 mazda b4000 2 weeks ago and the belt was squeaking and I knew I had to change the water pump so I replaced it and the squeaking didn't went away... I thought maybe my idler pulley bearing was worn out cause I could see it wobble back and fourth when the engine was running... Replaced it, still squeaking! Change my belt still squeaking! look further turns out my power steering pulley wobbles slightly. I'm thinking about trying a gator back belt and see if the squeaking goes away. Could it be dangerous to run the truck as it with a slight misalignment in the power steering pulley? or it'll be a must replacement asap?

Yaris/Scion & Vitz :: Changing Drive And Power Steering Belts?

info on changing the drive and power steering belts. I recently changed them on a 2003 Echo and took some pictures.

There are 2 belts on the Echo engine. A drive belt and a power steering belt. In order to remove the power steering belt you must, first, remove the main drive belt. If changing one it may be best to change both.

First remove right front wheel. Use jack stands to support the vehicle. Do not rely on a jack to hold it up. Next remove the passenger side front bumper cover. I feel it best to remove the cover as then you can do a test drive before enclosing everything. You can, if you wish, just lower cover to give access to the drive belts. With the cover removed, check the power steering pulley and make sure that you have access to the adjusting bolt. This bolt is accessed thru an opening in the pulley. See last picture.

Here are 2 pictures of the bumper cover installed and removed.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Power Steering Line / Noise Reduction

Ever since i bought my truck i have had a bad power steering whine. Replaced the pump and its still there. I got the truck in 2006 and think i replaced the pump in 08 maybe. Anyway I've purged, bleed, changed the fluid. Pulled a vacuum on it and still no luck. So I've just dealt with it for 11 years.

Well i can remember reading something somewhere about ford up-dating or redesigning one of the power steering lines that was causing this noise.

My father inlaw just bought a 02 and its so pleasant not to hear that when riding in his truck. It made me want to investigate the matter. SO if its as simple as a updated line I'm buying one asap. He got rid of his Chevy because of the reliability I've gotten out of mine.

I just replaced my 3rd HP power steering line last night( 3rd in 300K, always blows the same point....fitting comes apart where it attaches to the pump.

I'll start, mine have gone about 100K plus or minus 10K, almost thinking about making it a 100K maintenance item.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2000 - Loose Steering While Turning - Alignment?

I started noticing a problem with my steering on my 2000 Excursion, a couple of days ago. when I make left or right turn, the wheels seem to want to continue in the direction of the turn even as I am straightening up the steering wheel. I have to over compensate on the steering wheel to straighten the wheels it seems. It does it when I make a left or right turn, but seems to be worse when turning left. Also I noticed that if I'm driving on pavement that has ruts from heavy traffic, the front end seems to pull to one side then the other.

I've had the truck for 7 years and this is the first time this has happened to it. Is it an alignment problem or is there something else that I need to consider? I jacked it up today to check the tie rods and drag link, everything seemed ok

Celica :: 2001 - How To Remove Power Steering Pulley

I need to remove the power steering pulley on a 2001 Toyota Celica GTS to replace the pulley shaft's seal. I've got several pullers, so I figure one of them will work. But, I'm concerned that when I pull it out it could damage whatever it messes with inside. Also, I'm going to try doing this with pump on the vehicle.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2002 - Power Steering Pulley Noise

My '02 Hyundai accent's power steering pulley makes noise when the car is turned on all the way. That noise doesn't go away until I shut off the car. It is not the same noise as a belt slipping as I have that problem before and had fixed it by tightening the alternator adjuster bolt.

When I spray a little bit of WD-40 on the P/S pulley bolt(bolt and split washer) the noise goes away. However, it comes back the next day, since I am guessing the WD-40 has been dried away. So, should I replace the pulley to fix this issue or is it something else?

Accent MC (2006-11) :: Power Steering Pulley Locking Up And Start To Slip

I have a 2007 Accent GLS with 70,000 km on it. At times, my power steering pulley will lock up and start to slip. All belts have recently been replaced. After about 2000 km after replacement, is when the problem started. The problem is intermittent and the pump itself turns freely after the belt is removed. When it locks up a loud squealing sound can be heard. This happens only when tight turns are made (usually it's to the left). Could it be related to the pressure switch relief or relief valve?

Accent MC (2006-11) :: 2009 - Noise Coming From Power Steering Pulley

So I purchased a 2009 Accent hatchback about 11 months ago and so far its been great. However, recently (as in the past 2 weeks or so) I have begun noticing a strange cyclic noise developing from the engine compartment accompanied with some minor vibrations. Over time it has grown more prominent. I would rather deal with this before it becomes worse (and more costly) if its a serious issue.

Some info: I recently took a trip to North Carolina (from Florida). I also recently replaced the spark plugs before I left, so they are relatively new. The car has about 37k miles. After popping the hood and taking a look, it seems as though the noise is coming from the power steering pump/pulley area. The noise seems to match the rotations. Either way, here's a video of the noise (pardon the moving in the video, I was mainly recording for sound): [URL] ....

It may sound like normal engine operation, but it did not make that cyclic sound for the first 10 months, so it worries me. Perhaps I'm just paranoid.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Power Steering Pump Is Leaking Fluid Onto Serpentine And Timing Belts Causing Them To Swell

So I have multiple issues that all seem to stem from a power steering leak. According to the dealership, the PS pump is leaking fluid onto the serpentine and timing belts causing them to swell. This in turn has something to do with the AC compressor not working but they wouldn't give me details. When I looked at the clutch wheels on the AC compressor, there seems to be a good amount of rust in between the two wheels. I can't say that I trust the dealership because the original owner was bought out by a larger group that is known to just say "replace everything". I usually do most of my own work on my 95 Tacoma, so I'm no stranger to import v6 motors.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Power Steering HP Line Replacement

I am replacing the high pressure power steering line on my 2000 Lightning and have a question about the fitting that goes into the steering gear. The new hose came with a black rubber o-ring that the instructions seem to indicate goes on the end of the steering gear fitting. The problem is that I did not see any o-ring on the original hose end or in the steering gear itself and the hose did not leak there (it was leaking on the pump fitting). Should there be an o-ring at the end of the fitting or does the fitting go on without it and uses a metal to metal seal? If replace this hose, did you use the o-ring or leave it out? Does it go on like this? Or like this?

Nissan - Belts - Airconditioning :: 1994 - Engine Down Significantly When At Idle?

My 1994 Nissan Altima is a great little car with an unknown number of miles, though my best estimate is around 150k. Every time the air conditioner compressor kicks in it drags the engine down significantly when at idle, and often causes the belt to squeal. The squeal is most notable while accelerating. My question is, since the belt is relatively new do I have a tensioner problem, a compressor problem, or something else?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2001 - Power Steering Line Leaking At 45k Miles?

Brought my 2011 Limited (6.2 so old school hydraulic power steering) in for its 45K service, and they found a weeping high pressure line. $100 special order part + 3 hours labor. This seems a little soon (to me) for PS components to be failing already, or is this a common repair? They said I could leave it alone for now and monitor it but could lose power steering while driving (safety risk).

Any history of high pressure power steering line leaks at such low mileage/age before? Does 3 hours labor sound about right?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2002 - Power Steering Cooler Line Leaking

I have 2002 F150 5.4L gas 4X4 Lariat FX4. Last winter when it got to -30C here in Manitoba one of the lines near the power steering cooler began to leak. I had just bought this truck and upon investigating found that the original line had been replaced and reattached with hose clamps. I had this "farmer fix" redone but then this winter when it hit -30C it blew apart. Obviously something happened to this line before I got it, so I am curious if there is an issue with these power steering cooler lines when it gets really cold. Should I just get factory lines installed and hope for the best?
