Can I ask a question about reiki? I have a hernia and have not had much luck trying to treat it thus far. A friend of mine recommended I try reiki. She even gave me the number of someone who is a reiki master. It seems quite expensive but I am willing to give it a try. So is reiki meant to be used complementary?
View 1 RepliesI was diagnosed some years ago with Hiatus Hernia and have had 3 endoscopy's. I do eat carefully am about 1-2 stone over wieght, I am a line dancer and have no problem with that. The main thing that I don't like is the feeling of a lump under my right rib, it is quite uncomfortable and i feel i have to stretch up to ease it. I can feel it now while sitting at the computer. I had the pain in backand chest last night which is bad but took Peptac liquid which quietened it down. Does anyone else have the lump feeling?

View 2 RepliesGot 3" red circle on Father's Day, Sunday, June 16, 2013. The circle got darker each day, and I was feeling nauseous and tried. On Wed, June 19 the bulls-eye appeared, went to Health Stop clinic.
Diagnose me with Lyme Disease.
Put me on antibiotic, Doxycycline, for 21 days, 4 days later, Saturday night, June 22, I can call my cat, my left side of my face is paralyzed, diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. My eye was blood shot and hurt. The eye drops and gel has helped a lot. I had to tape my eye shut at night.
When I finished the 21 days of Doxy, for the Lyme, I no longer have Flu-like symptoms, of fever, chills, nausea, neck pain, or feeling fatigue.
It's been 7 weeks that I have had Bells Palsy and it is getting better, I can now call my cat (kissy, kissy), I dont have to hold my cheek to pronounce b's and p's any longer. I no longer have to tape my eye shut at night, but I still cannot smile. People are telling I look better. I got Bell's on June 22, I was hoping that it would only last for 2 weeks, now I'm hoping that I will have my face and smile back in 2 months (August 22nd. I have not been taking anything for Bell's, my doctor offered a steroid (Prednisone), but I did not want to take a steroid.
Anyone else get Bell's as a result of Lyme?
How long did the Bell's take to go away?
Did any of the treatments you used for the Bell's work?
I'm thinking of trying Acupuncture (doctor not supportive), I've had 2 Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy sessions (I think they helped, but not sure).
I had a hernia repaired in the groin 7 years ago and suffered no pain since. However a month ago i lifted a small weight at work and felt a small pull at the repair site. Since this i have had a sharp burning sensation just off the repair scar and my left testicle constantly aches. I have been to a and e and my Gp they say no hernia, had an ultrasound and they say no problem. I'm ok if lying still but if i move, walk, lift or anything remotely strenuous i get the pain.

View 8 RepliesI have had problems with acid, heartburn and stomach pain and symptoms for well over 8 yrs maybe longer. after yrs of asking for more investigations and being dismissed by gp because of my age (30), telling me I am young and healthy and don't require a endoscopy , I finally had one done yest and have been diagnosed with hiatus hernia and a large area of barrett's can anyone advise the best info sites to look at at.. and also could this have been helped had by doctor listened to my concerns and had proper investigations done years ago rather than guess and take me on and off diff stomach tablets ?? Long few weeks of waiting on results.

this time I was told it would have to be open surgery and not key hole.
I have the pre operation appointment at the beginning of November and received a letter saying I'm on the waiting list.
But today I have received a letter with an appointment for a Anaesthetic Opinion? ? Dose anyone know what this is and why I have to have one. I'm 14 stone and 5ft 11 so I wouldn't have thought its cos of my weight as I feel I'm of normal average size/build.

Mostly how long it took them to get back to work.
Any foods that you can suggest I get in for after operation.

I'm due to go in for surgery on Wednesday and a bit terrified as I always feel like I am choking when I eat food and the only way I can cope is by getting sick....not being able to do this after surgery has me freaked out bit time. Just hoping that the positives of having this done will take away the feeling of having food lodged in my throat and I can have a normal life. I've had this condition since I was 16 and I'm 39 now. Hopefully I will get better after this. Anyone going through this too or have gone through this and come out the other side? Could use some positive vibes right now.

I had a ventral repair April 16, 2015 with parietex mesh after a strangulated hernia and had to have a revision 1/11/2016 after the fat and tissue strangulated again. I have not felt well since the first surgery and was basically told I was crazy feeling like I was having recurrent hernias. Post op time 1 I dehisced and ended up with 2 I&Ds and septic. Still have not felt well. 8 weeks after completing antibiotics I got sick again (I have had abdominal pain still, every day- worse after eating). I am inpatient now after a second incidence of sepsis. Lactic acid 3.9, WBC 13100, oxygen sats in 80's and hr 130's on admission. I have no health issues before this and am tired of being sick. The medical team has spent all their time trying to find a new source (day 6 today). All because the CT is negative. I need some help, directions, feedback... Has anyone ever had mesh or intestinal issues like this without a positive CT? I have not had normal GI function in a year...

Day 1 no real pain until the meds/anesthesia wore off. Not too groggy.
Day 2-4 no pain when lying down, just when getting up. Then sharp pains in groin near upper thigh, really nasty pain. Right side, retained feeling everywhere. Left size all numb below scar, to and slightly onto thigh, and to base of penis. Balls not sore nor swollen. Advice, get a bed pee thingy if you drink a lot of water, it's a lifesaver.
Then onward, once the pain began to wear off a bit after about five days, I stopped pain meds and switched to advil. Nothing made much difference. I didn't have a bm until about five days after the surgery and was terrified. I was taking Colace and it worked fine. I drank a ton of water.
When I started getting up and walking, the sharp, burning, scraping pain was there when getting out and into bed. When walking it was like someone had put a brick in the left side of my groin. It was heavy and uncomfortable, probably due to the neuropathy. My nerve was not cut, I found out later, but it was all probably due to the fluid, swelling, and trauma of the nerve during surgery.
The progress here on in was extremely slow. A month in, still some paint, but less, still equal amount of numbness and discomfort when walking and sitting. After week three i could finally like on my side, which was great. This relieved the pain in my heels that were killing me from resting against the bed. And it ended the sore kidneys/back from lying around. A friend said socks can prevent this.
Week 5, still numb, but the heaviness in the groin feeling is getting slightly better. I went through a sort of depressive time after reading online about people who didn't recover well after a year or more. I'm feeling better these days, emotionally. After sitting/walking around for a couple hours, especially if I go out and walk, visit a store or anything like that, I get completely wiped out sort of all of a sudden. It feels like my entire energy is gone. Other people I ask say this is normal with surgery and it takes a long time to get the energy back. Saw doc and he said it seems everything is healing per normal. That was good, at least.
So I wanted to post this, because it seems some people are up and running marathons the day after whereas for some of us, the healing seems to take a lot longer than expected. Here's wishing everyone good recovery and mental strength. It is taxing to lie around and wonder if and when things will begin to improve.
My recommendations: Tons of water. Daily vitamins. Colace for first few days, then bran etc. Get a cheap bedside hospital table from walmart or somewhere, it's great for sliding over your stomach and putting a book or computer on. I also put it over my abdomen at night to keep the cat from jumping up onto me.
Bottom line, don't get depressed. Only after nearly five weeks did I begin to notice a real sort of improvement at all.
I have the worse heartburn and acid reflux ever....I have had many tests done and was told years ago that I have a hiatal hernia which is not an uncommon thing I am told....I take nexium twice a day, but they don't do anything for me anymore, I drink gaviscon also....I watch what I eat/drink because really there is not a lot that I can have of either without being bothersome to me....any suggestions/ideas....if you have it, what do you take for it?

After being looked at he was told that he could not have kids due to the repair. Is it possible to get pregnant using some type of sperm extraction techniques...?
View 1 RepliesFor a long time i suffered with acute pain from O S mostly brought on by acid reflux from hiatus hernia. I came across a sort of solution which works for me.
At the first sign(generally slight pain and a tightening of my chest around the base of the esophagus ) which generally happens during the night ,but not always I eat dry biscuits(digestives are good) they seem to force the stomach back where it's supposed to be.If that doesn't work then its a piece of toast and hot tea.
It seems to happen more when my stomach is empty,but that may be just co-incedence.It has helped me avoid the development of a more serious,painful problem.
I had the Nissen fundoplication in 2011 for a hiatus hernia, for the past year have been getting my symptoms back and have been struggling with lifting and bending as makes my symptoms worse.
View 6 RepliesAbout 10 years ago I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and they said they could see barrett's oesophagus, however the biopsies came back negative. From then I was told I can never get barratts so don't need to go back and was given 40mg Nexium to take daily.
Since then it has helped a lot but I still get some very bad days of acid reflux, these have been getting worse so I have asked my doctor for another gastroscopy as I have worries about my stomach and chest.
For the last 6 months while I have been waiting for the appointment I have had a strange feeling in my throat, like there is something stuck in there, about an hour after eating lasting hours, it feels really uncomfortable. I have no problem swallowing or eating, it is just there afterwards, like a very large golf ball stuck there. I have also found some pink/red lumps, like flesh on my pharynx. They look sore but I don't have a sore throat, cough or any cold flu symptoms. Like everyone, googling it has produced the worst possible answer of cancer with diagrams similar to my throat.
I went to the doctors last week and explained my concerns and he felt the outside of my throat, said he couldn't feel anything and looked in my throat for literally 1 second, he didn't have a look around just glanced. He just said your fine and then he then told me to stop worrying about stuff because people my age don't get cancer or major diseases, it probably just reflux from the hernia.
It is hard not to worry, when I still don't know what this imaginary lump and the lumps on my throat are.
When I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia the consultant said it is the worst most inflamed hernia and oesophagus she had seen in 15 years as a consultant and I was only 20 at the time, she was in shock, yet I have never had a follow up appointment, my doctor has always said I will be fine so don't need one.
I am a 30 year old man who doesn't smoke and drinks about once a month.
